A family of MnIIILnIII strictly dinuclear complexes of general formula [MnIII(μ-L)(μ-OMe)(NO3)LnIII(NO3)2(MeOH)] (LnIII = Gd, Dy, Er, Ho) has been assembled in a one pot synthesis from a polydentate, multipocket aminobis(phenol)ligand [6,6'-{(2-(1-morpholyl)ethylazanediyl)bis(methylene)}bis(2-methoxy-4-methylphenol)], Mn(NO3)2·4H2O, Ln(NO3)3· nH2O, and NEt3 in MeOH. These compounds represent the first examples of fully structurally and magnetically characterized dinuclear MnIIILnIII complexes. Cooperative Spin‐Crossover Behaviour in Polymeric 1D Fe II Coordination Compounds: [{Fe(tba) 3 }X 2 ]· n H 2 O

A new family of 1D cooperative spin-crossover polymers with general formula [{Fe(tba)3}X2]·nH2O [tba = N-(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)benzamide; X = CF3SO3–, n = 2 (1), n = 0 (4); BF4–,n = 3 (2), n = 0 (5); 4-CH3C6H4SO3–, n = 3 (3), n = 0 (6)] has been synthesised and characterised using a series of spectroscopic methods, X-ray powder diffraction, magnetic susceptibility measurements and differential scanning calorimetry. The copper analogue of 1, [{Cu(tba)3}(CF3SO3)2]·3H2O (7), has also been synthesised and its crystal structure solved at 293 K. Compound 7 crystallises in the P space group. New heteronuclear gold(I)-platinum(II) complexes with cytotoxic properties: are two metals better than one?

A series of mono- and heterodinuclear gold(I) and platinum(II) complexes with a new bipyridylamine-phosphine ligand have been synthesized and characterized. The X-ray structures of the ligand precursor 4-iodo-N,N-di(pyridin-2-yl)benzamide, and of one gold derivative are reported. All the complexes display antiproliferative properties in vitro in human cancer cells in the range of cisplatin or higher, which appear to correlate with compounds' uptake. Interestingly, studies of the interactions of the compounds with models of DNA indicate different mechanisms of actions with respect to cisplatin. DNA binding, nuclease activity, DNA photocleavage and cytotoxic properties of Cu(II) complexes of N-substituted sulfonamides.

Abstract Ternary copper(II) complexes [Cu(NST)2(phen)] (1) and [Cu(NST)2(NH3)2]·H2O (2) [HNST = N-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)naphthalene-1-sulfonamide] were prepared and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. Both 1 and 2 were structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures show the presence of a distorted square planar CuN4 geometry in which the deprotonated sulfonamide, acting as monodentate ligand, binds to the metal ion through the thiazole N atom. Copper(II) complexes with sulfonamides derived from 2-picolylamine and their use as chemical nucleases

Reaction between 2-picolylamine (2-aminomethylpyridine) with 2-mesitylenesulfonyl and 4- tert -butylbenzene sulfonyl chlorides leads to the formation of 2,4,6-trimethyl- N -[pyridin-2-ilmethyl]benzenesulfonamide (Hpmesa) and 4-ter-butyl- N -[pyridin-2-ilmethyl]benzenesulfonamide (Hptbsa). These compounds react with Cu(II) salts to yield coordination compounds with CuL 2 stoichiometry. The immediate environment of the metal ion is a highly distorted tetrahedron, the sulfonamide ligands acting in a bidentate fashion. Five new mononuclear complexes formed by the polynucleating ligand 2-[1-(3,5-dimethyl)pyrazolyl]-2-hydroxyimino-N′-[1-(2-pyridyl)ethylidene]acetohydrazide (HL): [Ni(L)(HL)]ClO4·2CH3OH (1), [Ni(L)2]·CH3OH (2), [Zn(L)(HL)]ClO4·2CH3OH (3), [Zn(L)2]·CH3OH (4) and [Cu(L)2]·CH3OH (5) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, mass-spectrometry, IR-spectroscopy and X-ray analysis. Ferrocenyl-Coupled N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes of Gold(I)

Four gold(I) carbene complexes featuring 4-ferro-cenyl-substituted imidazol-2-ylidene ligands were investigated for antiproliferative and antivascular properties. They were active against a panel of seven cancer cell lines, including multidrug-resistant ones, with low micromolar or nanomolar IC50 (72 h) values, according to their lipophilicity and cellular uptake. The delocalized lipophilic cationic complexes 8 and 10 acted by increasing the reactive oxygen species in two ways: through a genuine ferrocene effect and by inhibiting the thioredoxin reductase.
